Advantages of Commercial Sprinkler Systems

A sprinkler system is a network of concealed pipes that supplies water to sprinkler heads located throughout a building. In the event of a fire, the system responds automatically to control the flame. Each sprinkler head will pump out about 25 gallons of water per minute.
Although sprinkler systems are an essential safety measure in commercial properties, some property managers believe they do more harm than good. A common misconception is that they exacerbate property damage by causing unnecessary flooding. In fact, automated fire sprinklers substantially mitigate property damage and loss!
According to NFPA, fire damage in structures with fire sprinklers is reduced by approximately 71%. That’s because fires in structures with automatic sprinkler systems are contained to the room of origin 97% of the time. Containing a fire is key to minimizing its destruction. By comparison, a fire that has spread throughout a building will require many thousands of gallons of water to extinguish.
